Kaylan Mendiratta
I am a 17-year-old fashion designer and entrepreneur. I founded Soultier 3 years ago, in my freshman year, and have slowly built up a total following of over 5,000 and $30,000 in revenue. I design every piece, communicate with manufacturers to produce it, and sell it through my own online store and social channels.
This site collects the majority of my work: the garments I've designed, and how I design pieces from scratch.
Soultier means a person's desire to be a soldier of their soul.
It's about staying loyal to who you really are, guarding your own voice, taste and beliefs instead of shaping them to fit in. It's a person who doesn't chase approval or trends. They protect what's theirs and keep showing up for it, even when it's the harder road. I wanted clothes that carry that attitude, pieces made to last and worn as a statement of who you are. That's why the brand borrows from vintage and workwear, it's made for people who answer to themselves.

One piece, two garments
The Afterhoods have a hood that zips off at the collar, so the same piece works as a hoodie or a crewneck. I designed the zip so it sits flat along the neckline when the hood is off.

About
I started Soultier to make the clothes I wanted to wear. Running it means doing everything: designing, sourcing, sampling, photographing, marketing and shipping. Most of it I taught myself, one problem at a time, and every piece goes through rounds of samples and changes before I'm happy to put my name on it. Each drop teaches me something I carry into the next one, and I'm still learning as the brand grows.
